When you visit this website, the web server automatically records technical data that your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page, and browser and operating system. This is necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure, for example to detect attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest). The log files are kept for a maximum of 15 days and then deleted automatically. The data is not combined with other data sources.
The fonts on this website (Source Sans 3) are stored on this server. No connection to Google or other font providers is made.
If you use the contact form, the data you enter (name, email address, message) and your IP address are sent to me by email so that I can answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about the course, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). To prevent abuse, the server stores an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address for 10 minutes; it is then deleted automatically. The same applies when you write to me directly by email. I keep your message as long as it is needed to answer it and delete it when the conversation is over, unless legal retention periods apply. Your data is not passed on to third parties.
The exercise videos are hosted on YouTube, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. They are embedded in the privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click the play button. Only then does your browser connect to YouTube's servers; YouTube receives at least your IP address and the page you are on, and may set cookies or similar technologies. If you are logged in to a Google account, YouTube can link the viewing to your account. The legal basis is your consent by clicking play (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. More information: Google privacy policy. The links “Watch on YouTube” and “Subscribe” simply open YouTube in a new tab.
The worksheets and solutions are plain PDF files. Downloading them requires no registration and is recorded only in the server log files (section 2).
You have the right to access your data (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). You can withdraw a consent at any time with effect for the future. To exercise these rights, simply write to me. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
